29 Chimera Court, Saturday Evening

Ah, it was good to be back on the island. Sure, most of the faces were new. Again. And Reno had spent the better part of the day with his shades on while he adjusted to actual sunlight. Again. And he didn't technically have a place to stay. Yet.

That was what he was working on fixing now, his bag slung over his shoulder containing a ferret and anything that he could smuggle into the bag during the picnic that looked like Mako would enjoy it. Not that Reno had really been careful about smuggling the food in the first place. It was a picnic. Taking food was half the expectation, and what the hell was the school going to do with the leftovers?

He stopped in front of a decent looking place not far from the water, straightened the bag on his back, and considered it for a moment. The place looked occupied already, which would make it a challenge, sure. But if there was one thing Reno liked, it was a challenge. With a little 'heh' and a swagger in his step, he made his way up to the front door and tried the handle.

If this went to hell in a handbag in three seconds flat, at least it'd be a good time.

Mitsutada hadn't locked the door, so when it opened he was a little confused. He'd not expected interruption in the middle of his cleaning. He stood for a second, baffled at the appearance of the man, until he finally spoke, loud enough to perhaps attract the attention of the other folk who lived there.

"Did someone order a stripper?" was his choice of words.

Reno blinked at that. And then he barked out a laugh. Okay, that was way better than anything he was expecting.

"These clothes don't come off without damn good incentive, yo," he said.

And sure, sometimes that incentive was something as simple as 'to annoy Tseng,' but it was true enough all the same.

"I'm here to see a guy about a room."

Not that anybody had advertised a free room. And he probably would have done better to start by knocking. But hell, where was the fun in any of that?

"Any guy in particular?" Mitsutada asked, thinking Reno must have prearranged with one of the other men of the house. "We do have space for you, of course."

He paused briefly.

"Assuming you pass all the tests."

Look, he was slightly bored with cleaning.

Okay, this was gonna be good. Whatever it was. Breezing past the first question entirely, he settled back against the doorframe and grinned.

"I pass the tests, I get a room? Works for me, yo." And he was going to hold you to that, sword-boy. "What kinda tests?"

Mitsutada's expression did not betray the fact that he was absolutely making this up on the spot.

"Well, first of all, are you going to murder any of us in our sleep... or while we are awake?" Mitsutada asked, mainly as a way to buy him some time to think. But it also was a good thing to get a solid answer on.

"Nah," Reno replied with an easy shrug of his shoulders. "I ain't got orders to, and anyway, that'd probably be rude, yo."

That answer came way too easily, right there.

"Who do you take orders from?" Mitsutada asked, mainly so he'd know. It's not like he didn't have orders to follow, himself. "And why?"

This was becoming more a sort of interview than a test.

He was going to have to find something to throw at Reno's head.

Just so there was a test.

It was definitely an interesting one, wasn't it? And Reno had spent enough time on the island, it wasn't as though nobody could find these things out about him with minimal effort and twenty minutes going through old school newspapers.

"I answer to a guy named Tseng, but he ain't on this world," he replied. "It's the job."

For a Turk, it was really meant to be that simple.

That wasn't quite reassuring to Mitsutada, as it sounded a lot like a mercenary mentality - allegiance to coin was whimsical, and not the fun kind.

"Fair enough," Mitsutada said. "We all have loyalties beyond this island of some sort, after all."

He reached into his pocket and found his phone, which he pulled out and flipped over to his stopwatch app. "Please do two laps around the house. Your time begins now."

Now he was just messing with him.

“Stripper?” Miguel poked his head out of the kitchen. “Wasn’t me, but -“ He saw Reno. “Huh. You’re a stripper?”

"Will being a stripper get me a room?"

Look, he'd said that wasn't usually his thing, but sometimes a guy had to check.

“I think it’ll mostly get you either wolf whistles or requests to put your clothes back on,” Miguel said. “You’re looking for a room?”

"That's the plan, yeah," Reno agreed, nodding. "Familiar with the island already, just got back into town, and don't have a place to stay. Figured I'd try my luck here."

So far this was working out far better than he'd anticipated it would. Only on Fandom Island, he supposed.

Miguel shrugged. “We just had one roommate head back home a couple weeks ago, so there’s room. Actually,” he added with a slight frown, “he’s also the guy whose house it was, so I have no idea if we’re even paying rent anymore. So you might be able to just move in, but be ready to defend against possible landlords?”

"I've defended against worse," Reno mused. "Pretty sure I can handle a landlord, yo."

Either he'd fudge the paperwork in his favor or someone was going to die quietly in their sleep. Depended on how Reno was feeling that day, mostly.

"This is Fandom," Miguel pointed out. "There's no telling who or what a hypothetical landlord might be.

"Anyway, you'll have to meet the other guys, too. As far as me...what are your feelings on spiders?"

Reno quirked an eyebrow a little at that.

"Ain't got no problem with 'em or anything. Why? You got a pet or something?"

[magnusrushesin]

"Guys, it's not cool to shame people for their professions," Magnus said, totally going along with this bullshit because he could. But also so people knew he wasn't down with that.

Okay, see, Reno liked this one already.

"Right," Reno replied, pointing a finger at the big guy and grinning. "I can be a proud stripper if I wanna be. Pullin' in the big money, makin' people happy."

He wasn't a proud stripper, but hey, he'd done a few jobs as a Turk that made his peers wonder.

"Hey, do whatever you want," was Miguel's opinion. "You're just not what I was expecting."

[magnusrushesin]

"...did you hire a different stripper? I mean."

Magnus couldn't help himself.

"Was it on Craig's List? Because that is totally different here."

[what_the_shock]

"I didn't hire any strippers," Miguel protested. "But if I was going to think 'stripper', it wouldn't be a skinny redhead in a suit."

He paused.

"Maybe. I don't even know anymore. Anyway, what's Craig's List?"

Miguel hadn't encountered either version yet.

"It's this list you can hire roomies or rent strippers from," Reno supplied.

Because this was very important information.

"And I ain't that skinny."

He was super skinny.

"Can you specify one or the other, at least?" Miguel wondered. "And you really are, you know."

"Miguel, would you like to discuss why you're stuck on this? Is it because you're attracted to him?" This was his Travis voice because he couldn't not do this.
