"I'm friggin' bored," Reno announced, possibly to nobody in particular, possibly to the bowl of beans that he'd picked. "Bored bored bored."

The beans said nothing.

"You know how bored I am?"

The beans waited patiently for a reply.

"I'm so friggin' bored, I'm talkin' to string beans."

This was what happened when Reno got himself suspended from duty for two weeks.

Fear.

"I taught class with Anemone," she defended herself. "And went to work and everything. I'm not--hiding."

A tug of her hair and a dip over the side of the roof. "I'm on the roof right now, of the dorms. Not my fault of people don't find me."

None of which really answered the question!

"And if you're a freak, then I like your freakitude."

That wasn't a real word, Ino.

It was closer to being a real word than most of the things that came out of Reno's mouth!

"You're gonna work on that," Reno decided. See? It was almost like an order, this way. Reno was so very kind.

[intraspective]

She sighed. "I guess." Suggestions that were really orders were still, well, orders. When had she started listening to his? "It's just... weird. It's not so important, what they're all talking 'bout 'cause none of it seems--clicky."

Clicky?

"Clicky, Ino?"

Yes, even Reno had to ask.

"If it ain't sittin' well with you, then find a different topic. Easy enough. That's another important part of the job. Knowin' how to manipulate the conversation, yo. Gets you information. Keeps you from slippin' with any of your own."

And it was fun!

Chewing on her lower lip she tried to find actual real and shiny words to explain it.

"It's... like... none of it's sticking in my head," Ino said finally. "Like, it don't really matter, so I don't really care. Whatever whatever whatever. All like that. None of it is clicky."

"Hey, if it don't click, don't dwell on it. But that ain't no excuse for shuttin' yourself away from people, neither. Just because they ain't as awesome as we are don't mean we don't gotta deal with 'em."

Yes. This was really how Reno's brain worked.

"Awesome has got to be shared?" she gave that a soft laugh. "I guess I got some stored up. Maybe that'll help."

"Pass the wealth around, Ino. The island'll only suffer without," Reno chuckled.
