A Small Spot on the Beach, Monday Afternoon

There had been kids. Showing up out of the blue, being bloody adorable at them with introductions and some more over breakfast. There'd been worry about two of them taking off to feed ducks, and more worry that morning about what would happen to one of them when he went back home.

But right now? Right now was all about not worrying about any of that. Right now, Reno, Rikku, Ruba, and Rede had found their way to the beach. With umbrellas of varying sizes for both the wee, and not-so-wee.

For family time.

"Bet I can make a bigger splash in that puddle than you can," Reno mused.

Rede couldn't help but smile back, at that.

"Really?"

Well, it was obvious, he supposed, with the way she was dancing about like she was. Just so long as she wasn't attempting to make him dance around the way Riina kept doing, he thought it was actually fun to watch.

"With good freakin' reason," Reno practically crowed as he lowered his umbrella long enough to dive forward like some kind of bird-of-prey to scoop Ruba up against his hip with his free arm.

They were both already soaked, it was all good. "Did you guys see the size of the splash she made? Serves me right for thinkin' I could do it better, yoto."

Ruba wriggled against him. "I learneded from the best," she announced, placing a kiss on his cheek. "C'n we do it 'gain?"

"Really really," Rikku said, squeezing the hand on his shoulder. "I think your sister's pretty fond of you."

They really were siblings, and the hell with anyone who said otherwise.

Reno was going to melt, some more. Just a little bit. He was a hardened Turk and wasn't prone to letting little girls with bright eyes and soggy curls turn him into mush just because they called him the best and kissed his cheek and--

And--

Awwwwwwww.

"Yeah," he decided, setting her down again. "Or..." And there would be where he grinned and whispered in Ruba's ear, every now and again glancing up at Rikku and Rede and grinning.

Him, plotting a dual splashdown assault? Noo, neverrr.

"Uh-oh," Rikku giggled, grabbing Rede's hand and tugging him along. "I think they're out to get us wet. We'd better run for it!"

Rede blinked as Rikku took his hand, and he stumbled along after her for a few steps before he started running alongside her- keeping up was easy, it was the getting started that had taken a little work. The kid definitely got Reno's speed, anyhow.

"What's the matter with being wet?"

"Nothing," Rikku laughed. "But it's more fun if we make them work for it."

"Watch out, we're gon' GET YOU!" Ruba laughed, chasing after. Not nearly as fast as she might be going, for all the shrieking and giggling.

"You ain't gonna escape us that easy," Reno agreed, running along after them- and going a little more slowly than usual, so that he didn't leave Ruba eating his dust.

Had to keep an eye on his little girl, after all.
