Room 504, The Arms Hotel, Sunday Evening

Okay, so there'd been that dance last night. And there'd been training with Ghanima, and plenty of drinking, and then Fight Club, and now there was to be even more drinking. Because that was just how Reno rolled.

He'd kind of given up on the two-mouthful drinks that could be purchased from the minibar, and so he'd made a ~~handwavey~~ booze run earlier in the day, and he was now good and stocked up with everything from Absolut to the ingredients to slosh together a Flaming Zombie.

The name seemed fitting. Reno kinda had to, here.

Oh yeah, and there were the partners in crime.

Dōjima was a woman with a mission; seek out her people, and get absolutely trashed so that she was too hungover to be depressed tomorrow.

"Ohaiyo!" she hollered, swinging two bottles of sake by their necks. "Who's going to help me drink these, so I don't have to cart them home?"

"Always game for helpin'," Reno laughed nodding and making his way over to open the door for her. "Especially when it means helpin' the girls who bring the good booze, yo!"

"I never bring bad booze, Red," Dōjima huffed as she flounced in. "That's slander of the worst degree!"

"Yeah, yeah," Reno snorted. "It's my job to bring the bad booze, I know. At least I didn't bring none of that crap they're servin' in Edge, now. You wanna drink somethin' that tastes like somethin' a chocobo might cough up, that's Corel Ale."

"Well, I'll ship you more of the good stuff if you promise to share with your roommate," she teased. "Maybe we should look into the customs issues involved with getting you set up as a distributor; you can sell it to Tifa at a nice mark-up, and use the cash to get Rude a new couch."

"That'd be a damn fine racket," Reno considered. "An' it'd probably be easier to ship through Portalocity than it would to have decent booze sent to Tifa by way of chocobo. Trouble is, if the markup's too high, ain't nobody in Edge who can actually afford it. Hell, half the time? They trade goods an' services for the booze they sell already. Nobody's got the Gil, yo."

"Then sell low, or trade low, and make a profit with sheer bulk," she said cheerily. "Maybe someone will trade housekeeping for booze, and you two can get a pair of pretty curtains out of the deal!"

Reno had himself a laugh at that one.

"Pretty curtains," he repeated, just amused enough to not sound too incredulous. "Now there's somethin' that'd look lovely in Rude's decayin' shithole apartment, yo. You should see this dump, Doji. The place ain't three years old yet, an' it looks like it's been rottin' out for twenty."

Okay, it was entirely possible that it was made of things that had been rotting for twenty. Edge was made up of chunks of Midgar, after all.

... He might still have a tic towards keeping his distance from Dojima. No reason.

Dōjima could respect that. She was just going to. Um. Stay on the other side of any table or other furniture in the room, until she was drunk enough to forget why she never wanted to look him in the face ever ever again.

"Sake," she answered, holding up the bottles. "Japanese wine. Absolutely fantastic stuff, but it has to be drunk within 2 or 3 hours after opening for the best flavor, which makes it a most excellent party-booze."

"How potent is it?" asked Arthur, who made a good show of considering the wall just off her face. It was polite, that way.

Dōjima grinned wickedly.

"Potent enough," she said, reaching into her shoulder bag and coming up with some sake cups. "I only buy the best, and it's strong enough that you can't drink more than small amounts at once without falling over."

"Let's keep it to the small amounts for now, then," Arthur said, again, tactfully. "Not that I can't take it, but walking home is of some importance."

See? He could be perfectly normal around her.

"Walking? You'll put all the rickshaw drivers on the island out of business," she teased. "There's no classes tomorrow, just kick back and enjoy, ne? That's what summer is for!"

Repression was Dōjima's default state. She could be perfectly normal for the duration of the party, and then they'd never have to see each other again. Except at Homecoming. Or if Romeo invited him over. Or Graduation.

It was a very good thing there was alcohol.

"As if I could ever resist," Romeo said from his spot on the floor. "Hiiii, love. Your top makes your eyes glow."

Clearly, this was the "absurdly flirtatious" portion of the evening.

"Hey there, aijin," she said, kneeling down next to him. "Have you been saying pretty words to all the girls tonight?"

"Just you and Rikku," Romeo said, and tried to stretch to kiss her. His coordination was off; he might just get her ear. "And, it's true! You're all ... radiant."

"You got started without me, didn't you?" Yurika asked, leaning in to kiss him. "No fair, now you'll have to help me catch up!"

"All Reno's fault," Romeo confided. "He's a bad influence."

"Of course he is, he's our Reno," she laughed. "I don't think we'd have him any other way."

"Although you're a pretty bad influence yourself, you know. You Montague boys are nothing but trouble."

Ino waved at Dōjima-san. "Look, see, now you can't sulk," she said, laughing.

"I might sulk anyway, just to be contrary," she teased. "I brought sake!"

"Are you going to let me have some?" Ino wondered, looking woeful at the idea of not getting any. "If I'd thought about it, I would've seen about bringing shōchū, with me."

"Always," she replied, swinging a bottle. "I know that you know how to appreciate it!"

"They'd have to disown me if I didn't," Ino laughed, leaning back comfortably. "It's practically impossible to not appreciate it."
