A Zoo on the Mainland, Tuesday, After Classes

Okay. It had been... a week. To say the least. It was only Tuesday and Reno already wanted it to be over, already.

But that wasn't going to stop him from making an ass of himself in public. After all, so far as public outings went, some things were practically sacred.

"Think they'll let me take home a penguin if I ask real nice?"

"'Sorry honey, I might have fibbed? Again?' That'll go over fantastically," Yurika sighed, tugging at her hair. "I don't know. I mean, he knows the part about me being a Seed, I did explain that, and I do trust Juliano to hold to his word. Mostly. I just... I got thinking about it, after I talked to him about my thaumaturgy class. I just don't like the idea of using magic, and now it's got me looking over my shoulder."

She grinned faintly, trying to muster up happy thoughts. "I'm probably just worried over nothing, right? I mean, I can't even manage to hex a rock."

Reno offered her a wry smile, at that.

"Doji, I use more magic just pissin' around in sparring matches than I'm sure you ever will, yo." He was pretty sure that was supposed to be a compliment, somehow. "Man, we're on a roll, ain't we? Worried about the future, can't live down the past. Serves us right."

"You know what this means, right?" She held out her water bottle and stuck out her tongue. "We need to go find the penguins."

Mmm, best water bottle ever. Damn, Reno owed her one.

"I think truer words ain't never been spoken, yo."

To the penguins, armed with concealed booze and denial!

It wasn't denial! It was just a different form of coping. Really. Shared denial was totally different from plain denial.

"Everything is going to be fine. I know this, because you two still owe us a night out on the town, we have Spring Break coming up, and you still have to moon Tseng at graduation for me. Clearly, the universe is on our side."

"Tseng's gonna hate you forever," Reno decided, having himself a long pull of 'water' before passing the bottle back to her. "Once he realizes that you bein' nice to him back in Edge was all just a clever ploy to keep him from realizin' you're just settin' him up to see my chocobo, he'll probably get his revenge or somethin', yo."

Granted, that revenge would probably be on Reno. And it would likely be in the form of paperwork up to his nuts. But that hardly mattered, did it?

"It wasn't a ploy! I like him, he's funny!" she informed him indignantly, reclaiming her bottle to take a drink. Taking shots like this was tacky, she so needed to buy a soda "You mooning him is just going to be funnier."
