A Quiet Corner of the Dorms Roof, Wednesday Night
Reno really should have known better than to spend so much time with his co-host (the rum, not Jenny) after the radio broadcast last night. He'd felt like crap in the morning, and spent a good piece of the day continuing to feel as such. So he'd stood up Rikku, who he was supposed to spar with. And he'd avoided pretty much anyone else for the rest of the day because he was damn sure he'd be biting off someone's face if he didn't keep to himself.
Killing his roomie because of a rum-induced snit wasn't a good idea, he realized when evening rolled around. So he had found his way up to the roof before any interaction with Tamaki had occurred, too.
There was a sky out there, full of clouds though it might be, and he was perfectly content to sit on the roof and look up at it, letting the chill of the night air bite at his face. Reminded him that he was alive.
Good to be, after feeling like the bottom of someone's foot all day.
[[Shoved off in a wee corner of the roof so I'm not monopolizing it, as this post is for one person in particular. <3]]

She wasn't sure why she was wandering up on the roof in her pajamas. Just kinda couldn't sleep. Weird.
Oh, hey. She knew that hair. "You must not have wanted to get your ..."
Blink.
"... butt kicked? Uh. You okay?"

So much for picking a quiet corner to avoid confrontation from.
"Never better, yo."
It was unfortunate, perhaps, that Reno was a lousy liar.

She waited. Come on, was he just gonna let the bait sit there?

Yep.
"Guess not."
He shrugged his shoulders.

"Bad day? Or ... you just felt like coming up to the roof and feeling sorry for yourself?"
no subject
"Don't ever bother feelin' sorry for myself. Doesn't do any good anyhow, yoto. Better things to do than sit around gettin' snot all over myself cryin' a river over shit I can't do anything about."

"You know," she said softly, "'nothing, butt out' has less syllables."
no subject
"Isn't nothing. Don't necessarily want you to take off, either."
no subject
"Okay," she said. "You feel like talking?"

After a few moments, she said, "Like with the Al Bhed? I could get really mad about how we're treated, and none of it's gonna make anybody think any different about us. That kinda thing?"
no subject
He didn't want to expand on that. He really, really didn't.
"Didn't used to see a sky like this often where I came from. The view sucked."
no subject
"One thing you can say about the desert," she said, looking up with a light smile. "Amazing view. Here you've got the city lights causing a bit of a glow. Out there? Just ... darkness, miles and miles of it, and you can see all the little twinkling dust scattered between the stars, you know?"
no subject
"Not really. Mostly I find myself doing double-takes when I notice that the sky's got clouds, yo."
no subject
"Clouds?" she asked. "Your sky doesn't have clouds?"
no subject
"Sure it does. Wouldn't believe how many people out there take 'em for granted, yo."

He snorted and sat up.
"When it does that, I just do my damnedest to be a bigger ass about it. Screw it, zoto. Not gonna stop me from livin', no matter how rotten it turns out to be."

"Is everything a competition with you?"

"Yeah. G'night, Rikku."
Maybe he'd just sit there until she left. And then maybe he'd lay down and watch the clouds some more.
He still had some tequila in his room. Maybe later.
