Room 501, Wednesday Afternoon

Packing.

It was much faster a job than one would expect, given how much crap Reno had amassed since coming to Fandom. But he had managed to stuff everything that he had come to the island with into the same duffel he had brought initially, and most of his booze stash even managed to get crammed in there as well. This left a box with a model helicopter to be carried under one arm, and he was good to go.

Turks, after all, knew how to pack light.

Reno, who was thankfully far less blue than he had been last night, looked around room 501, smirking faintly. If there was one thing that could be said for the school office, it was that they worked decently quickly. Even if they couldn't spell to save their lives.

Room 429. A single. Tseng would be sated, anyhow, and it meant that Reno got a room all to himself, which wasn't half bad, either.

[Establishy-ish? I'm leaving for work in half an hour, but it's open if anyone wants to ask Reno what he's up to-- if you're okay with not being pinged back to until later on this evening.]

"Thought maybe you were skipping out of town," she giggled. "Dear Boss: I'm bored, the rum sucks, screw this town, I'm comin' back to ... uh." Give her a second. "Midgar?"

"Midgar's rubble. I'd be headin' to Edge. Or probably to the Healin Lodge. Nice little sanatorium out in the middle of freakin' nowhere." Shrug. Grin. "Nah. Fandom ain't that lucky yet. You're stuck with me for a while, I'm thinkin'."

"Sorry," she said, shrugging a little. She was close, partial credit maybe? "We'll just have to figure out what to do with you then. Need me to carry anything?"

"Think I got everything. You offerin' to walk me to my room?" He wasn't asking. Really. At all.

"You sayin' you need an escort?" she laughed. "Whole floor, yoto. You might get lost."

She fell into step beside him. "How's, uh, your week been?"

He kicked what used to be his door shut behind them as they left, and gave a shrug of his shoulders.

"The usual. Get interrogated by the clerk at the clothing store, painted blue, mocked by squirrels, my co-host tries to cook my brains, I'm told I gotta move, and it's only Wednesday. I figure the world's gonna end by Friday night, or somethin'. Yours?"

"What'd you do to the pixie?" she giggled. "Ugh, the blue finally came off, I was so pissed about that. Why do you have to move, anyway?"

"Wasn't the pixie," Reno chuckled. "I met Romeo, yo. I got most of the blue off. Rum doesn't work as nice as I'd hoped. And why am I movin'? It's a Turks thing, yo. No big deal."

"Turks ... don't play well with others?" she asked, tilting her head a little. "Did you really think rum was gonna get your face back to normal? And Romeo's in a couple classes of ours, I thought you knew him alr--"

She put it together, and facepalmed.

"Mmmmhmm." Reno smirked at her for a bit. "I warrant bein' mentioned to the guy friends? I'm flattered, yo." His grin was a smug grin. "You tell me if Turks play well with others, you met half of us already. And I'm never gonna pass up the chance to wash my face in free booze."

Rikku stopped facepalming long enough to glare at him. "He asked if I was seeing anybody," she said dryly. "I said no, I wasn't, but our whole ... whatever ... came up. He did the whole, 'I'll talk to him' deal and I tried telling him it wasn't like that, but, you know."

She shrugged, switching topics. "I dunno, you and Rude hung out at the convention and you bugged him a lot, why does that mean you can't have a roommate?"

Reno was going to let the topic switch only because he knew he was right dammit and he'd just let the rest inflate his ego. He totally warranted mention.

"Rude's a Turk, too," he pointed out. "A little different from sharin' a room with Tamaki the Wonder Leech."

"Wonder Leech?" Rikku raised an eyebrow. "Is this about your pimp club?"

"No," Reno replied. "But it could be? Tseng just figured that sharin' a room with someone was messing up my-" Reports on everything he learned about Fandom. "-studying."

Rikku folded her arms. "Yeeeeeeeeeah. He wants to make sure you don't fail Religion, zoto."

Please. He didn't have to tell her, but let's not insult her intelligence, here.

"Biff paints us all blue again, failin' Religion class is gonna be the least of my worries I'm thinkin', yoto." Handy-dandy topic switch, here to save the day.

"I yelled at him after class, I mean, like I don't hate that class already, why can't I just drop it, and --"

She stopped walking abruptly and looked over at him.

"Is this more I-can't-tell-you-so-there crap, or do you just think I'm stupid?"

Okay, no handy-dandy, day-saving topic switch. Reno could live with that, too.

"Don't figure it's somethin' I should be passin' on, yo," he admitted. "It's one part studyin', ten parts paperwork, and has nothin' to do with Tamaki except that I can't do it with people hoverin' over my shoulder. Turk stuff."

Rikku nodded, feeling oddly embarrassed. "I just ... you know. I get it. I mean. The Con and all. I do. I know you can't tell me what's going on, the classified bits and pieces, I just ... I dunno."

She started walking again. "Not sure why that bugged me. Don't worry about it."

Reno lingered for a moment, eyebrow raised slightly before he followed along after her.

"I guess I could'a said up front that it was somethin' I couldn't talk about. You know already, so I don't have to make up bullshit excuses about needing more time to study."

She waved a hand dismissively, not turning around. "Or don't. Doesn't matter, right? Whatever. It's confidential, blah blah blah. Fine. Where's your new room?"

"Room 429," Reno said warily, keeping about a half-step behind her.

Fantastic.

"Look, Rikku. I'm not gonna apologize for not tellin' you what they got me here doin', yo. I don't have the option. But least I can do is give you a little credit and be up-front about it with you when it's somethin' I can't discuss."

Rikku took a deep breath, and then stopped again, letting it out, and looked over her shoulder at him. "Okay, then," she said. "That's ... all I ask. Yeah?"

"Seems fair to me, yo." He shifted the bag over his shoulder and then hiked the toy chopper up a little with his hip. "Nothin' else I gotta work on, is there?"

Didn't hurt to ask.
