Reno stared at the little sphere in his hand, squinting hard at it. It had almost killed him to get this damn thing, this stupid fucking piece of doomsday that AVALANCHE - the real AVALANCHE - had been so hell-bent on getting their mitts on. And he hadn't told Tseng yet. Hadn't really told anybody but the Rookie.
He had a little piece of the end of the world, the beginning of the end of the Turks, right there in his hand. Shit, he was still bleeding on the damn thing. Or maybe that blood belonged to the Ravens he'd taken down to get it.
AVALANCHE would notice it was missing before long. They'd send someone to investigate and they'd find blood and footprints and the telltale smoke and ozone smell of thundaga in the air. And he'd be long gone by the time that happened. He looked down at the corpse of the Raven on the ground. He spat on it as the body began to fade.
And then he picked up his phone and placed two calls. One to Portalocity, telling them to send a portal to a location that was a good ten minutes away on foot, if he ran like hell. And, as he was running like hell, he placed a second call.
Now the mission was out of his hands and over to Iris.

And then, with all the fearless of a man with money, he was walking up to one of the men working security to ask just that. A few moments later, he was walking back to 'Fleur,' all smiles.
"Good news! This kind sir has told me that they have tours twice a day, and there's one coming up in twenty minutes that still has room enough for two!"
My, how convenient. Almost as though it had been planned for.

"Oh, how wonderful! There's time enough to get a drink before we go," she said, beaming at first 'Rubedo' and then around him to the kind sir that had helped him out. "Isn't it wonderful? And the tour is early enough that there will be plenty of time to play the tables."

Out of the corner of his eye, Reno noticed a familiar gait moving around the room, dark hair tied back neatly. A trained eye would be able to tell that he was subtly tailing a target. Two targets, though one with intent to kill.

"Of course it was, darling, honestly," she said, fluttering her hands at him, as her mind followed his line of thinking. Ah. Tseng.
Well. It was going to happen at some point. He hadn't noticed them yet.
"I told you, when it comes to holidays, there's no one better than I for ideas. Now, where--ah, look, what would you like to drink? My treat."
no subject
"Oh, you know I don't drink while gambling," Reno admonished in a statement that was as far from being Reno as was Reno-ly possible. "It muddies my judgment." He paused. "Oh, perhaps a martini, though. There's one I've heard of that they make using pahsana greens that is apparently to die for."
Apparently rich Reno wanted fancy alcoholic apple juice. Okay then.
"I wonder if we can take beverages on the tour?"

He remembered this one. Some big shot from Midgar, not a great person, certainly not the President's favorite, but influential enough politically that the loss would be felt across the city. And there was a dignitary from Wutai here tonight. Tseng was to kill the Midgardian politician to further cement the President's footing at the seat of power, and then frame the Wutaian so that the President had an obvious reason to push the occupation and restructuring of Wutai. One of the events that, a few years down the road, led to his own 'vacation' in Wutai after the dropping of the plate.
His eyes came to rest on where people were gathering for the tour.
"Ah, hurry, hurry," he urged the bartender, "we're going to miss it! There are only two tours in a day, you know!"

In case he spotted them or else he got into hot water, she wasn't sure. Both. Both, most likely.
"I'm sure he knows, darling," Ino said, resting one hand on Reno's arm. "There's still plenty of time--look, the clock says it's only ten to."
no subject
He straightened up again and smiled at the bartender, nodding as he took his drink.

If Ino had ever wondered if there could ever be anything between her and Reno, and she hadn't really, the kiss put that way out of her mind. Oh, ew.
Siblings, at most.
Ino's smile became slightly fixed.
"I didn't realize you remembered much of our trip to Costa del Sol," she laughed, tugging him along.
Don't kiss me ever again.
no subject
Seriously. Absolutely siblings at most.
"Oh, come now, I hadn't had that many martinis," he laughed, tripping along after her.

"But it's so much fun!" she protested. "I deleted most of them--I only kept a few, truly, for... personal uses."
no subject
A pause.
"Right after I'm finished this martini."

"He's alright."
Jealous much?
no subject
"Don't be like that, darling," Ino reassured him gaily. "He has nothing on you."
no subject
And that was weird. They'd established that.
"Well, good." He made a big production of looking the tour guide up and down, and then returned his attention to his martini. "I do set a rather high bar, don't I?"
The tour guide looked faintly uncomfortable.
no subject
"Most of the time," Ino allowed, teasing just a little more. She couldn't help it. That much was pure Ino. "And even if you didn't, you'd still be my favourite."
That was... probably a lie, given 'Fleur's' personality.
Don't be ridiculous. The tour's starting and, ha, the guide looks so relieved.
no subject
He really didn't. At all.
"Was there ever any doubt?"
The guide started talking, trying to get his voice to carry over their chatter, and before too long, the group was on the move.

From the chandeliers to the sculptures to the detail work on the panelling on the walls, everything was perfect, and ridiculously, opulent.
Ino was...
Rather bored.
I hope we get to the fireworks section soon. I'm tired of making impressed noises at pictures.
no subject
Really, they weren't. Otherwise he'd be acting far more careful.
We're headin' to the roof, at least. To take in the view. We can piss off and poke at the fireworks setup there.
no subject
And it wasn't like she actually cared what he did, though 'Fleur' was just doing a good job being oblivious.
And we'll be oh so contrite if we get caught!
That was the nice part of playing stupid, it really was. People believed stupid.
no subject
Because, really. Rich folks on a casino tour. It wasn't a stretch from there.
Okay, we're comin' up on the roof. I'm sure I can distract 'em long enough for you to get that bauble tucked in there, yo. Ain't like you need more'n a second anyway.
