WTFH - Fandom Radio [Thurs, August 14th]

Looks like it was a quiet day yesterday, with most of the activity being School related, Anakin moved Shenanigans over to the beach, mostly to trick passers-by into voluntolding. As for what they got voluntold into my notes just say 'YEET' in especially excited handwriting, and after the yeeting, Anakin had a nice conversation with Atton. Or at least one where they didn't get into a hair pulling fight.

Meanwhile, over in the Library, Arden was distracted by games on her phone.

Nothing much happened in the Dorms, while in Town, Adrian was in a mood at Pick Your Posion. A cleaning mood. Pamela, Rey, and Lydia all noticed this mood, so he must have been cleaning pretty thoroughly.

Thanks. Now I have the song stuck in my head.

Over Easy, Thursday Morning

Lydia had sent out a message after last week's class to her Supper Club regulars, letting them know that they would not be having supper this week, but rather investigating the island's newest eatery for 'brunch.' A time had been handwavily worked out that hopefully would allow for everyone to attend, although Lydia had to go and eat pizza after this, the poor dear.

She was in a splendid mood this morning, as she would soon be visiting a magical marketplace! Oh, it was evil, to be sure, but magic! Shopping! What wasn't there to be excited about?

It was rather unfortunate that their schedule meant they'd missed Will it Waffle? Wednesday, as that sounded like an intriguing occasion, but perhaps she could visit some other time.

Welcome to Over Easy and Supper Brunch Club, everyone!

The Photo Hut - Thursday

Liz was starting to feel a bit better than she had last week, she was still feeling tired but she had been able to get a couple of nights rest and felt well enough that she could try and catch up on some of the work that she had left last week when she hadn’t been feeling well.

She was still taking it a bit slow but she was having a mostly productive morning and finishing what work she needed to do.

The Park, Thursday Afternoon

Yeah. So. Talking to someone about the whole Jedi-rebuilding thing. Great idea. Good way to actually be helpful. It was fine! Fine.

Jack had even curated a whole thrash metal playlist for the morning and the walk here just to get him into the right fine mindset (nothing cured insecurity like some Anthr-- okay, maybe the phrasing wasn't great on that one), but of course someone's musical tastes had completely ruined his algorithm. By the time he was actually walking to the park - early, way too early - the playlist had finished and he had Tim McIlrath sing-yelling Are we not good enough? Are we not brave enough? Is the violence in our nature just the image of our maker? in his ears, memories of the weekend dancing around in his head.

He sat down on the bench. Set his lightsabers down beside him, and then - after a moment - reached up to take out the earbud. "We're not stories, we're not actors, we're awake and in control," he mumbled to himself. And then a few more times, for good measure.

Okay? Okay.

Time to wait for Rey.

"4205 AR," Liliana said at the start of class. "In addition to being a hundred and fifty-five years before my birth--" clearly the most important part of Dominarian history "--that was the year that the Phyrexians began their invasion of Dominaria. The last book in this trilogy is called Apocalypse and for good reason. ) Liliana closed her eyes and exhaled slowly. "And that is where we'll be leaving off for this week, but before you ask, no. This was not some kind of brilliant scheme to get close to Yawgmoth, Urza really and truly betrayed all of Dominaria and surrendered."

Steven had enjoyed his camping trip with Llewellyn. Longer than before, not too long as a whole. Even so, something about coming home yesterday had felt right. Like there was extra reason to pat the walls and tell Midnight it was doing a good job being a home. It was loved and where it was meant to be.

Strange. Couldn't possibly imagine why. Some quirk of the multiverse, perhaps.

Regardless, Steven did manage to leave said home - and his comfy bed with a proper mattress - to come into work. Which was where he was, in his usual spot behind the Welcome Desk, barring interruptions for things like his class with Stark in the morning.

Summer Shenanigans, Wednesday mid-morning

Worrisomely, the park was empty today aside from a sign that directed everyone to the beach. When they arrived, they would find a huge wooden scaffolding at least 30 feet high (somewhere, an Olypmic platform diving squad was wondering where their stuff had gone) next to the water. In the water was a blue and gold inflatable as long as the scaffolding was high. Further out were ropes marking distance from the inflatable blob.

Everyone have a horrifying mental image of what was going to happen here? Good!

"I have returned after foraging for parts last week," Anakin lied through the megaphone. He'd been a cat. "And we are trying out an all new event! You will climb to the top of the scaffolding and jump down onto the inflatable! This will launch the person at the other end of it into the air! Whoever launches someone the furthest wins! The launchee will also receive points for style before hitting the water."

The points get you nothing. You win nothing. "After you have launched your island mate, you crawl to the launch zone and you get launched by the person behind you. This will be fun."

Possibly only for spectators.

"Come get your rash guards and life jackets, if necessary. Listen for your names!"

Fandom Radio, Wednesday 8/13

Another Wednesday another day I am beset by squirrels to read their notes to everyone for reasons I still don’t entirely understand years later. Why are the squirrels here like this?

*chittering*

Maybe I am a little tired. I stayed up to watch the meteor shower. It was beautiful. They always are.

Now. Beginning with the school there was a trip to Montana and definitely not Alaska in (Even More) American National Park Tours with Sam Eagle. Then, at the beach, Beach! class learned that…you can’t do much of anything legally at the beach. Flint and Isabela discussed piracy and ships after learning all of those new rules which are all very odd. But I don’t think anyone here cares. And then we had Paintball! with extra trees and towers and it was terrible but Steve might disagree.

Nothing from the dorms but the porg…seems to have fallen asleep. All right. I hope he isn’t ill. So now we have the notes from the town.

Pick Your Poison was open, with Pam watering plants and checking inventory before Harley arrived and they began planning for lunch.

At Caritas Kitty very bravely faced Tino being loud and the zombies experimenting with “hair metal” even though she had a headache. I’m sorry, Kitty.

Gray and Raiden were at the beach swordfighting while shirtless. I wonder if that’s allowed with all the rules that the beach class learned about.

*chittering*

I’m not sure that them being shirtless with their wings out truly makes it a “public service” but that is an interesting argument. You might be able to make that case to the troopers it would certainly be worth trying.

Pick Your Poison, Wednesday

Adrian knew that he couldn't put it off for much longer, he was going to have to make a trip to the Anchor Market. Which he was most emphatically not looking forward to. So, in order to keep his mind off that, he was giving Pick Your Poison a good, thorough scouring. Under the units. Behind the shelves. In the corners--of the ceiling.

Maybe he'd be a little more Zen after this.

...Probably not, but hey, at least the shop would be sparkling.

She was bent over her phone, quietly yelling at her phone as she learned a new plot twist. "You can't be serious!"

Fall Class Submissions!

Yep, it's that time!

Do YOU Need This Form?

  • If your character is a current teacher and would like to continue teaching, or a current townie who'd like to start or return to teaching, you DO need this form. Just scroll on down and fill it out below.
  • If your character is an alum/expat who would be returning to the island to teach, first YAY, and second, you DO need this form. Please drop us an e-mail at fandomhighadmins@iambicnut.com to let us know you plan to bring the character back, then mosey back here to fill out the class proposal below!
  • If your character was dropped from the game and you'd like to bring them back as a teacher, also YAY, but you'll need to do that by submitting a character application as described here and including your class plans in that. So congratulations, you DON'T need this form!
  • If you are a current teacher wanting to move to townie status, just drop us an e-mail to say so; you also DON'T need this form. If your teacher is running away for good, tell us over here in the dropped character post.

What If I Want To Teach Adults At The Community Center?

We are no longer offering classes at the Community Center! If you want to teach adults, fill out this form and write that your course is only open to adults. (Bear in mind that the "adults-only" classes will be happening near the high school-aged students, though, and don't plan anything so visibly unsavory that Zoe would chuck the class off the roster and your character off the top of Selkie Peak. Inappropriate shenanigans can happen with proper OOC warnings in the class - we're all adults here even if the characters aren't - but plausible IC deniability is the key.)

What's Needed for a Class?

  • The ability to come up with 17 weeks worth of classes (16 + 1 exam)
  • The ability to post each class by noon Pacific or 3pm Eastern the day it's scheduled (you can also post the night before).
  • The ability to interact with your students (slow play is fine, you don't need to be around all the time).

CLICK ME )

Your adult character's form will need to be in these comments by Monday, August 18th for great scheduling justice! The class ideas are screened for the fun of the surprise.

(Even More) American National Park Tours with Sam Eagle, Tuesday 8/12, 1st period

“Today we shall be going to Montana, students!” Sam announced. “To Glacier National Park which is not to be confused with Glacier Bay National Park which is in Alaska! We shall not be visiting Alaska today!”

“The park in Alaska contains far more glaciers though the one in Montana though that one is over one million acres in area! Huge! Enormous! Awe-inspiring. And, I might add, home to impressive wildlife including bald eagles!” Always important, after all.

“While we are there do not get lost in the wilderness! I will not be sending out a search party and the rangers have other things to do with their time!”

You could try keeping the group together and supervising them, Sam…

“I recommend the hiking trails for some of you. The visitor centers for others. Or you can simply enjoy the majesty of the American Wilderness!”

And with that extremely useful introduction to an impressive park, Sam was standing at the waiting portal, gesturing with a wing, and impatiently tapping a giant felt foot.

Fandom Radio, Tuesday, August 12th

Hey there Fandom! What up, it's ya girl Arden Finch here, remindin' you to get your last summer kicks in, with fall barreling down the road at us.

School did its thing yesterday, with Teamwork working as partners to build things while ziptied together. 2 Problem 2 Creative did things to fruit and I'm asking for exactly zero details. And then How To Waste Time On The Internet delved into Reddit and that...sure what a choice. Eeesh.

Dorms was quiet, as per usual, but Town had a bit of activity. Infinite Consortium saw Professor Vess getting judgy about a sword, at least until Doc Harley came in and got some kind of...invisibility cloak? Magpie Emporium was opened late but in a great mood, which couldn't be said for the Clinic because they were having unexpected roof repairs. Pizza Planet featured a lot of summer produce, which sounds delicious, and Devil's Nest featured a lot of air conditioning, which Ms. Solo-Fel thought was a little excessive, but she was mostly happy to not be a cat anymore.

And that's it for me this week! This is ya girl, Arden Finch, signing off for the day. Have fun, hit the beach, and mostly enjoy OUTLAW by Neoni! Bye, island!

The Beach, Tuesday Afternoon

Out of all of their brothers, Raiden and Gray were the most reluctant warriors, so one might have thought that they would have slacked off on their training when left unsupervised on the opposite coast from the others. One would have been wrong. Gray and Raiden might not like their job, but they took it, and the deal with the archangels that necessitated it, very seriously. Their brothers' lives were on the line as well as their own, after all, to say nothing of the humans who needed protection from demons up to no good.

So, on this particular afternoon, one could follow the clang of steel on steel down to the beach and find a couple of Nephilim engaged in sword practice--shirtless, so they could have their wings out (you were welcome) for greater maneuverability.

"That was good," Raiden said as he hauled Gray out of the sand. "One more time."

Gray and Sloth both wanted desperately to suggest they just take a break now, but Gray shoved Sloth down, shook the sand out of his wings and hair, and agreed, "One more time." And then probably a few more after that.

Kitty was here with a raging headache and the aspirin hasn't kicked in yet. And unfortunately any hope of an easy night was thwarted by Tino working as loudly as possible while apparently trying to work quietly, and the zombies seemed to be experimenting in a hair metal phase.

There were...there were a lot of trees in the paintball area today. Where did they come from? Where would they go? Shhhh, these were not important questions. There even a few little towers scattered around the area where someone might get a good view around them! Because the teachers (Tony) was so very extra in making things happen.

"So, today we'll be working on a longer range engagement for you all," Tony said, setting out the modified paintball guns that soooorta looked like sniper rifles.

Steve was going to overlook any squeals of excitement. McGarrett. "Think of it as a giant 'floor is lava' game," Steve said. "You have to pick each other off from the high ground."

"No flying, anyone." That was just harsh, Tony.

Steve clapped his hands together. "Okay, let's go!"

Beach! [Tuesday, 2nd Period]

Class was back on the actual beach again, where Isabela was looking particularly cheerful.

"The thing about the beach is that you can do almost anything there," she started, only for a hillock of sand to appear and some kind of...was it a ground hog? Or maybe a wombat? Some kind of large burrowing animal to emerge and hand her a sealed pamphlet before vanishing back under the earth.

Aphra leaned over to read the title of the pamphlet. "'Things you cannot not do while having fun on Fandom's beaches'," she read. "According to who?"

Isabela shrugged and broke the seal, the pamphlet immediately unfolding into many more pages than should even have fitted in there in the first place. After several long minutes of perusing the list and exchanging pointed commentary with each other, they finally paid attention tot he class again.

"Apparently the only thing you can do to have fun at the beach is to stand ten foot away and look respectfully at it from a distance," Isabela said finally.

Aphra pointed to a spot on one of the pages. "After you've gotten the beach's informed consent, in writing to look at it."

Isabela nodded very seriously, then shoved the pamphlet down the front of her shirt. "Good thing pirates aren't overly fond of rules. So just have fun on the beach your way."

Pick Your Poison, Tuesday

And another week of Harley flitting in and out of her life, answering precious little in the way of questions...

To make things more irritating, the sting under her ribs was being a lot louder after the incident with Undine's building. At a guess, Pam figured it was probably leftover toxins taking little stabs at her whenever they got an opportunity.

So she did the sensible thing: she ignored it, and went back to work. Though before retreating to the lab upstairs, she'd be down for a while, watering all the plants, checking over the inventory, and flipping the sign to 'Open'.
